Unique in today's usual pipe tobaccos, this reminds me of the pipe tobacco that my grand father used to smoke back in the 1950s. It's flavor is listed as mild, but I would say it's strong and distinctive. Rich, with distinct aromas of citrus peel and salt cod (yes, salt cod... I'm not joking) with the identifiable Gawaith telltale flavors, I find it a very satisfying smoke, but it's not for the faint hearted. Towards the end of the bowl, you can start to experience the niccups, such as with S Gawaith's 1792. However, any discomfort is worth the experience. Like 1792, this must be what the original pipe tobaccos were like in a time when it all came in twists, ropes and flakes. If you're looking for a manly smoke, this is it.
