This tobacco came to me from 4noggins as part of a sampler package of Captain Black tobaccos. Upon opening the sample bag I found a ribbon cut Cavendish. The aroma was pleasing but I could not detect any dominant fragrance or flavor overtone. The advertisement states it has a "masculine, yet subtle" aroma. I have no idea what that would be but the fragrance didn't seem to match up, so I deducted a half rating star.
The tobacco is not moist and packs easily into the bowl. It lights/relights okay and burns medium-hot. The flavor profile is almost completely devoid of anything I could detect. It is indeed mild - as in nobody was home. The advertisement states the tobacco has a sweet taste. None was detected by me, so there went another half a rating star. There is absolutely no bite to this variety, so beginner pipe smokers will find this a great alternative. Surprisingly, it leaves a bit of refuse at the bottom which was perplexing to me.
The aroma was really neutral with no overtones of chocolate or vanilla - just pretty standard tobacco, so there went another half a ratings star.
In the end, I found this to be an acceptable Cavendish from BC that is everything you would expect a mass-produced tobacco to be - that being nothing special. The price point of this product suggests it is selling based on the brand recognition. 3.5 starts is what it rated with me. I won't purchase it again but I will mix it with something else.
