Peterson: HYDE PARK 50g

PETHYD

Hyde Park is a traditional English blend of bright and dark fired Virginias, sun-cured Indian and Burley pipe tobaccos, and (we suspect) just a subtle hint of Latakia. This luxurious smoking experience is achieved by the addition of rum and maple sugars to pressed mahogany pipe tobacco.

I love this stuff. Perfect all-day for me, other humans like the smell. Can't go wrong.

Tea and Toast

Tin note is Earl Grey tea and dry toasted bread. Good sweet and somewhat yeasty note on light up. Burn is good right out of the tin. The tobacco is PACKED into the tin. I mean my old arthritic hands dang near needed a chisel to scoop out a bowl. The rub is consistent and uniform and needs no further process. I'm gonna let this tin air for awhile. If you are one to nurse a bowl slowly over time I found the next morning relight on this to be quite a bit sweeter than when I put it down the evening before and the maple note came forward. I can sense Lakeland essence but it is atmospheric and seems to never really adhere to my palate. What I do get about half way through a bowl is white pepper. At first I thought I had pushed it to bite and needed to back off. Nope, white pepper. Fun blend that I think will improve with age.

Excellent but read carefully

A strange tin description could surprise. This is excellent tobacco, sweet and rich. The words "traditional English" are perhaps misleading. This is not a latakia-heavy mixture at all, nothing like that. More like a Lakeland or a Navy Mixture, perhaps, deep and sweet with a neat essence floating on top. More like Dark Twist than Squadron Leader, which puts it well outside of anything I would consider English in anyway, but hey.
